month long celebration of lgbtq plus pride with divas and drinks at the academy sf social club on pride eve. >> we want people to just feel the love of this time and just to, you know, life is short to enjoy the moment and to enjoy each other. >> san francisco sees close to a million visitors at the pride parade alone. in a typical year, according to sf pride, with each of them injecting money into the local economy. cliff's variety store on castro street is stocked up on rainbow themed merchandise, with everything from pride flags to suspenders. to mark the special occasion. >> it's a time for celebration, authenticity, a time when we all get to celebrate being exactly who we are with no holds barred, the castro merchants are hoping for a boost in revenue. >> we really need it this year, april and may have been very soft for the entire city and we need the tourists to come back.

>> cliff's variety typically sees a 20 to 25% increase in revenue in june. it's their third busiest month of the year, behind december and october. change is going to be $6 at eureka, sky cannabis dispensary. they're offering special pride themed gummies. the owner is forecasting june sales will jump 20% higher. >> a lot of tourists coming in for the last few years since the pandemic, but hopefully we're keeping our fingers crossed that we're going to see the same tourists coming in this year. >> the small business averages about 150 customers a day on weekends, and they're expecting to welcome about 200 a day during pride. here we go at the tiny but popular hot cookie. the staff estimates they'll pack in about 75% more customers for pride. it's like an insane amount. >> huge influx of business, you know, from people coming outside of the castro to the castro there, harvey milk chocolate cookies sold out on friday.

>> just a taste of what's to come. this june. and the big event is the parade of course. june 30th sf pride accepting donations, but it is still free to attend the parade. we've got a full list of pride events@ktvu.com. christina joy in studio for us tonight. >> joey. thank you. pride month festivities begin bright and early tomorrow morning, starting at 10 a.m. san francisco's presidio park is hosting its pride in the presidio day. organizers say tomorrow's event includes queer history hikes, book giveaways, stalls selling with drag story hour and a tea dance celebration with music connects foundation. >> it's a busy weekend in the bay area. not only are pride celebrations kicking off, but so is a large rave in the middle of san francisco, the city's civic center is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans to a show headlined by fred again and skrillex. ktvu amber lee spoke with the event's organizers about what fans can expect.

>> crews are working round the clock to set the stage for saturday's massive rave concert, transforming civic center plaza in san francisco into an immersive experience for music lovers. similar to this. fred, again from the uk, is headlining the concert along with skrillex. >> it feels very magical. it feels. yeah, it feels like we're starting. also, we're starting off pride month. like with a banger, this fan tells me. >> being able to buy tickets online was like winning the lottery. organizers say the concert, with the capacity for 25,000 people, sold out in less than 30 minutes. tickets cost $80 each plus service charge. i'm a big fan of civic center plaza. mary condie is with another planet, the concert promoter. she says sales data shows that more than 40% of tickets were sold to people who live over 50 miles from the city. >> make a weekend out of it. get a hotel room. they're going to come early, get them to go out

to dinner, go grab drinks. >> economic benefits from using entertainment to re-energize san francisco, organizers say 1000 people are working this event. >> the stale narrative about san francisco is bs. this city is poppin, but her fans say it's no surprise. >> this event, headlined by fred again and skrillex, has mass appeal. they describe fred again's music as crying on the dance floor, mixing spoken word about mental health issues with beats. >> people are suffering, people are suffering. in san francisco. the city as a whole is suffering like these are like joyous events where we are able to come out and just express ourselves and like be in community with each other. >> there are a number of street closures, so organizers are urging fans to take public transit. gates open at 5 p.m. the concert is scheduled to go from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. the assistant police chief tells me there will be extra police

officers at the concert in san francisco. amber lee ktvu, fox two news, the rave in san francisco civic center is not the only event offering live music in the bay area this weekend. >> saturday is the beginning of the first ever la honda fest at napa valley expo, organizers say. over 30 acts spanning several genres including regional mexican, latin pop, spanish rock, reggaeton and banda will perform. mana, who also played a bottlerock last weekend, will also perform. this festival begins at 1130 saturday morning with dj umami. the last act takes place saturday. excuse me sunday night around 8:00 and right now two day passes and saturday single day passes are still available. >> san francisco will not be the next home of the sundance music fest. excuse me. film festival, the san francisco film commission tells ktvu the city is no longer being considered to host the famed film festival. it publicly expressed interest in bringing sundance to the city last month, after the event's

organizers began debating moving the festival from utah. despite no longer being considered, the sf film commission is proud of the city's thriving film community. the sundance film festival will keep its original location the indie night film festival kicks off tomorrow in san francisco. the festival will be held at the amc kabuki theater eight in japantown. now in its 12th season, the festival is usually held in los angeles, but the festival's founder, san francisco native dave brown, wanted to bring it home. earlier today on the four, we spoke with brown about the importance of bringing these films to a bay area audience. >> we all came together. i said, hey, we have to go ahead and make this happen and highlight san that , with our great mayor london breed, it's great to have, you know, she she gave me the stamp of approval and said, dave, you got to come home and do it. and i said, i wouldn't. why not? i have to this is where it all started for me. and i know good and well there's a lot of other people out there too that can shine in hollywood.

>> one of the feature films is about san francisco. it's called faces of the city. it is comprised of six standalone documentary short films focusing on social justice. >> construction will soon begin on a road enhancement project in contra costa county. next week, work will start on 22 new bike turnouts in mount diablo state park. turnouts allow bicyclists to pull out of the main traffic lanes so vehicles can safely pass vehicles. bicycling equestrians, and hikers will be prohibited on select roads until this project is complete. 30 bike turnouts were added at mount diablo state park last year. >> new at 11 a man is recovering tonight after falling down a cliff in pacifica. fire officials say they found a man around 630 this evening in the area of esplanade avenue and manor drive, after he had fallen onto the beach rocks below an 80 foot cliff near esplanade beach. a highway patrol helicopter pulled the man to safety. he was then taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. walnut creek police are looking for an elderly man reported missing.

officers say philip was last seen around nine this morning in the gated community of rossmoor. he's in his 90s and drives a red ford mustang. if you have any information on his whereabouts, call walnut creek police. >> we are now learning a lumber company in the east bay that suffered a large fire last weekend was able to reopen for business this week. last sunday night, a massive fire broke out at the economy lumber warehouse on high street in oakland. luckily, no one was hurt. today, economy lumber released a statement saying it was able to reopen for business first thing tuesday morning. the business says the outpouring of support from customers in the community has been absolutely incredible. >> health care workers will have to wait a month to see an increase in their minimum wage. governor newsom today signed a bill delaying the boost in pay for the state's lowest paid health care workers. last fall, the governor championed a measure to have the increase to $25 an hour kick in june first. but earlier this month, newsom backtracked and said the wage increase needed to be delayed due to the state's budget

during the penalty phase of the chad daybell murder trial in boise, idaho. this story begins tonight's west coast rap. >> the so-called doomsday prophet was found guilty of killing his wife, tammy daybell, and two children. their mother, lori vallow, who was daybell's current wife, was convicted last year for their murders. a jury will decide if daybell should be sentenced to the death penalty. >> officials in washington state are expecting a busy wildfire season this year, and they're encouraging people to start preparing now. reporter shirah matsuzawa matsuzawa has more tonight on a new pilot program to help homeowners get ready before fire breaks out. >> those who spoke today say the hope is for the wildfire neighbors ready program to, well, spread like wildfire

memories of the sourdough fire in whatcom county last july. the smoke filled skies and roaring flames for months and months, giving extra urgency to today's event promoting the wildfire ready neighbors program. the sourdough burned from the end of july to october, first consuming more than 6000 acres and all started by a random lightning strike. so the more of washington that's prepared, the better. >> we started as a pilot in three counties. the idea was, how do we help every homeowner be empowered with the context of taking making defensible space around their home? >> commissioner of public lands hilary franz says the program is now in more than 11 counties in the state, and that now includes gig harbor. >> given the hotter and drier summer conditions, as fires will increase in size, frequency and severity in western washington, the program gives homeowners tips and resources to take before a fire breaks out.

>> a lot of people think large flames burn a lot of our homes down. it's not those large flames. it's a small little what we call an ember. the firefighter that can travel from from a wildfire and wind carried over miles landing around your home. >> gig harbor fire chief dennis doane and guy gifford with the department of natural resources gave a demonstration to show where those embers can land and start fires. >> windows during fire season. maybe you want them closed because embers can get in. >> they encourage folks to clean the roof of their homes, add or replace vent screens, replace or remove mulch, and sign up for wildfire ready neighbors so your home doesn't end up like this. >> so we're predicting it's going to be a tough fire season. >> and with the 4th of july just about a month away. chief doane has a message for those wanting to light off fireworks in their neighborhood. >> what about your neighbors, right. to have a home that's safe and not doesn't catch on

on the grounds of the california medical facility prison in vacaville. the solano county office of emergency services says crews worked quickly to fight the flames, but no evacuation orders were ever ordered. no injuries were reported. all right, let's get to meteorologist mark tamayo for a final look at the forecast. mark here comes the heat. >> yeah, at least we get a break this weekend. we're looking okay for both saturday and sunday, but, yeah, that's kind of the developing headline into next week. and yeah, we're talking 90s to maybe 100 degrees. wow yeah. so it's making a comeback. first we'll show you the highs from today. those actually, you know warm to hot but nothing nothing too extreme out there. you can see san jose 87, santa rosa 86, in san francisco 69 degrees. we're going to start off your weekend with some patchy fog near the coast and right around the bay, and then some gusty winds tomorrow afternoon around 20 to 30 miles an hour. and it will definitely be cooler. sunday. pretty much the same story with partly sunny skies and baseball with the giants and the yankees. game two

for tomorrow. we are expecting partly cloudy skies and a wind at the ballpark as well. could be over 20 to 25 miles an hour. so here's a look at the satellite. we're watching some activity up here to our north. what's interesting that could actually pick up some real rainfall up in the pacific northwest by sunday and into early next week. now for us, we have the low clouds and fog developing just offshore and pushing locally back into the bay. current numbers santa rosa, right now is 53 concord, still 60 degrees and oakland in the 50s. at 54. overnight temperatures will be in the 50s and some cloud cover out there regrouping right now. so it's kind of making its push back into the bay. and here is the expected cloud pattern tomorrow morning at 7:00, low to mid 50s out there. and then into the afternoon hours partly to mostly sunny skies. we could still have some patchy fog near portions of the shoreline. and there's the eventual temperature range from the 60s to the 70s. the warmest locations will be in the lower 80s, so we have been watching this guy over the past 2 to 3

days. this area of high pressure warming up the bay area. now it's a cooler pattern setting up into the weekend. we'll have a stronger onshore breeze that'll lead to those gusty winds and definitely temperatures trending down for both saturday and somewhat into sunday. but here's the developing story once again into next week. tuesday wednesday and thursday. a big time warm-up out there. temperatures well up above the average. this will be warming up the entire bay area, but the real heat will be focused in some of the inland neighborhoods. we'll be watching out for that for next week. for tomorrow though, some patchy cloud cover out there, some gusty winds and temperatures ranging in the mid 60s in san francisco, 82 in concord, san jose in the upper 70s. and the look ahead, your five day forecast. no big changes for your sunday. a little bit of a drop off those numbers by monday, and then a big rebound by tuesday and into into wednesday. so get ready for the heat. it is making a comeback next week. >> mark thank you. president biden unveiling a new cease fire plan for gaza. it comes as protests continue across the

country. and here in the bay area over how the us is handling the conflict, ktvu zac sos spoke with experts from the bay area on the president's new proposal. >> it's time for this war to end. >> president biden at the white house friday announcing a new israeli proposal, a three phase plan to end the country's war with hamas. >> hamas says it wants a cease fire. this deal is an opportunity to prove whether they really mean it. >> this is demonstrations against the ongoing war continue across the nation, and here in the bay area today. sky fox over a rally in support of palestine outside san francisco's federal building, middle east policy expert professor stephen zunes, weighing in on the new ceasefire plan. there is a desperate need for ending the humanitarian crisis, getting in aid, starting to rebuild. >> and israel does not want to be in the thick of it. it appears that netanyahu is a plans for having some kind of

quasi occupation. really, we're not realistic. >> reporter biden outlining phase one of the plan as a cease fire and withdrawal of israeli forces from populated areas of gaza for six weeks, hostages, including women, the elderly and some americans, would be exchanged for palestinian prisoners and humanitarian aid would be surged into gaza in phase two, with hamas lives up to its end of the deal, israeli forces would withdraw from gaza. the temporary ceasefire would become permanent, plus in exchange for the release of all remaining living hostages. phase three would then see the reconstruction of gaza. in a rare statement on u.s. foreign policy, former president barack obama posting to social media, quote today president biden put forward a clear, realistic and just plan to establish an immediate cease fire and end the war in gaza. but the plan still being met with skepticism from some lawmakers on the right.
